Punk Rock music was originated in the United States, the UK and in Australia in the Mid 1970′s. It was developed because mainstream rock and roll was beginning to become tame, with the likes of Billy Joel being called Rock and Roll. Punk rock typically has a fast beat, harsh lyrics, and a loud guitar that makes very abrupt chord changes.
With its roots beginning in garage band style, punk music has produced some famous bands including The Clash, The Sex Pistols and The Ramones. But, it is still and underrated form of music, because of its anti-establishment ways. Punk music embraces being different, and even musicians who can barely play an instrument are accepted into the world of punk for what they have to say and because they don’t know the rules to music they were able to break the rules and create something different.
By the late 1980′s Punk Rock still had a strong music presence, even if the Billboard charts didn’t show it. Bands such as Green Day, Sublime and The Deftones where forming, keeping this underground genre alive and present in the music world. Some of these groups have achieved mainstream success, but their roots will always be with the Punk Rock underground.
In the 2000′s we start to hear from bands such as Blink-182. They become mainstream and have albums that are listed on the Billboard charts and they even win a Grammy award, but this is a rare occurrence in the world of Punk Rock. Punk Rock is gritty and loud, and doesn’t really care if the critics love them. That is just their way.
